REC Emergency

Duration: 2 Day (16 hours) / Age: 18+ / Click for bookings or open course dates
The emergency first aid course is designed to introduce a systematic way of first aid for managing casualties. Topic learning and practicals intermixed with scenarios of real situations. The course includes:

  • The fundamental workings of the body, in particular the heart, lungs and airway
  • Assessing a casualty
  • Introduces a system to cope with all incidents as safely as possible
  • Deciding how to deal with an accident or incident 
  • Awareness of delayed medical help and adverse environmental conditions
The Emergency first aid course is certified for three years and is an entry point for the REC scheme. It is the approved course for RYA, BCU, MLTB

 

REC Standard (HSE) First Aid at Work

Duration: 3 Day (18 hours)  / Age: 18+ / Click for bookings or open course dates

A three day (minimum 18 hours) modular course. The course is for statutory and workplace needs. The FAW course is designed to introduce a systematic method of first aid for managing casualties. The course is a balance of learning and practical intermixed with scenarios of real situations. The course includes:

  • The fundamental workings of the body, in particular, the heart, lungs and airway
  • Recognising the difference between – healthy; ill; injured
  • Recording the baseline measurements of the vital body functions
  • Introduces a system to cope with all incidents as safely as possible
  • Covers the HSE syllabus for first aiders at work according to the ’81 and ’97 regulations and the UK and European Resuscitation guidelines

First Aid at Work is an HSE approved course valid for 3 years Ability to maintain statutory first aid requirements for a place of work according to HSE ’81 and ’97 regulations. Can be updated by a 2 day refresher course before expiry of original 3 year certificate.

 

 

REC Advanced

Duration: 2 Day (16 hours) / Age: 18+ / Click for bookings or open course dates
A two day course (16 hours). The advanced first aid course is designed to introduce a systematic way of advanced first aid for managing casualties. Topic learning and practicals intermixed with scenarios of real situations. The course includes:
  • Development of skills gained at emergency level
  • In-depth review of emergency care topics • shock management • longer term care
  • Advanced techniques • skills • development • use of additional equipment
  • Review of special interest topics by the candidates

Prerequisites: Candidates should hold minimum of REC Emergency, REC Standard or HSE preferred.
The Advanced First Aid course is certified for three years.

 

 

REC Instructor / Trainer

Duration: 4 Day (24 hours) / Age: 18+  / Click for bookings or open course dates
The trainer programme is designed to introduce a systematic method of training candidates to provide emergency care. Topic learning and presentations intermixed with scenarios of real situations. The programme is a five step process:
  1. Core knowledge: valid standard course • advanced course • first aid experience
  2. Training skills: 4 day trainer • assignments • video assessment • external assessment
  3. Observation: observe foundation level course • logbook for recording attendance
  4. Supervision: Supervised training with registered trainer
  5. Registration: Recommendation by two registered trainers • independent trainer

All candidates wishing to deliver the REC scheme must have completed a REC 2 day emergency course to understand the philosophy of REC, completed the advanced course and have an in-date HSE certificate for First Aid at Work.

To become a recognised REC trainer you must complete the following steps:

  • Attend 4 day Instructor/Trainer course and complete all assignments given
  • Observe a number of REC trainers
  • Teach on first aid courses under the supervision of qualified REC trainers
  • Submit written recommendations from REC trainers
  • Submit teaching file
  • Keep an up-to-date portfolio for continued professional development
